Rocky Mountain National Park Works Toward Dark Sky Certification

Rocky Mountain National Park is taking important steps to protect its night skies and reduce light pollution. Our 4% donation went toward aiding The Rocky Mountain Conservancy is funding a Dark Sky Intern who will play a vital role in this effort. Over a 10-week period, the intern will evaluate the park's lighting inventory and compile data for the National Park Service’s National Sounds and Night Skies Division.

The goal? To develop a comprehensive lighting management plan that aligns with the guidelines of the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA). Starting in the 2025 fiscal year, Rocky Mountain National Park will begin upgrading its exterior lighting. These efforts are key in helping the park work toward its recognition as an official International Dark Sky Park, preserving its natural beauty for generations to come.
