Honoring Culture and Protecting Visitors in the Havasupai Gardens

At Havasupai Gardens, two key initiatives are underway to enhance the visitor experience and honor the cultural heritage of the Havasupai people.

To ensure the safety and comfort of hikers of all levels, shade shelters were built. These shelters offer a space for visitors to rest and recharge, which is especially important for those making the challenging ascent up the Bright Angel Trail to the South Rim. The addition of these shelters provide a more enjoyable and safe experience for all who explore this iconic trail.

In addition, Havasupai Gardens plays a vital role in deepening the world’s understanding of the unique relationship between the Havasupai people and the Grand Canyon. To share their story of stewardship, new signs and interpretative materials were installed, ensuring that visitors can connect with this important history and gain insight into the cultural significance of this sacred land.

By enhancing both visitor experience and educational opportunities, these efforts at Havasupai Gardens will help preserve the canyon's natural beauty and cultural legacy for generations to come.
