Our 4% donations to Alaska Geographic are helping fund their education programs.
Alaska Geographic’s education programs are rooted in place-based, experiential learning on public lands. They aim to deepen participants’ connections to Alaska’s wild places, foster stewardship, and support youth development through outdoor skill building, mentorship, and conservation service.
They deliver a range of programming:
- Teen & youth expeditions — Anchorage-based outings in backpacking, sea kayaking, and stewardship projects held at no cost to students.
- Denali field courses — Multi-day, wilderness immersion courses led by subject-matter experts (e.g. geology, wildlife, botany) targeted at adults, teachers, and families.
- Teacher courses — Accredited professional development courses in both Anchorage and Denali settings, earning University of Alaska Anchorage credits; for example, sea kayaking, fire ecology, or wilderness pedagogy.
- Programs for school groups — K-12 group programming such as watershed education, urban fishing, and custom field visits (e.g. Bring a Ranger to the Classroom) designed to engage students in place-based science and outdoor learning.
- Custom programs in Denali — Tailored 3–4 day field courses with themes shaped for small groups (up to 10 participants), often including logistics, meals, lodging, and interpretive instruction.
Overall, AK Geo’s education arm is a bridge between Alaskan communities and public lands, amplifying engagement, building leadership, and removing barriers to participation in outdoor learning.
