Helping the Next Generation Explore Alaska’s Wild Places
At Wild Tribute, our mission goes beyond celebrating public lands through our designs. We also work to protect them. Through our 4 The Parks mission, we donate 4% of proceeds to organizations working to preserve parks, forests, and oceans.
One of the organizations we are proud to support is Alaska Geographic, a nonprofit dedicated to connecting people with Alaska’s incredible public lands through education, stewardship, and exploration.
Our recent donation is helping fund their Teen Expeditions program, an initiative that gives young people the opportunity to experience Alaska’s wild places while building leadership and conservation skills.
Meet Alaska Geographic
For more than 60 years, Alaska Geographic has worked alongside national parks, forests, wildlife refuges, and other public lands to inspire stewardship and deepen people’s connections to the outdoors. The organization serves as the official nonprofit education partner for many of Alaska’s public lands, supporting educational programs, publications, and interpretation that help people better understand and care for these places.
Their programs focus on outdoor learning, conservation, and community. They help people of all ages develop meaningful relationships with the landscapes that define Alaska.
What Are Teen Expeditions?
Alaska Geographic’s Teen Expeditions are immersive, multi-day outdoor adventures designed specifically for Alaskan youth. Each summer, teens travel into Alaska’s backcountry for experiences that combine adventure, education, and stewardship.
During these expeditions, participants may:
- Backpack through Alaska’s wilderness
- Paddle and explore coastal ecosystems
- Work on stewardship projects such as trail building or invasive species removal
- Learn wilderness travel and outdoor safety skills
- Connect with park rangers and public land professionals
The program helps teens build leadership, confidence, and a deeper understanding of the natural world while fostering a lifelong connection to public lands.
Removing Barriers to the Outdoors
One of the most powerful aspects of the Teen Expeditions program is that it is offered at no cost to students.
Outdoor expeditions like these can be life changing, but they are often inaccessible due to cost or lack of opportunity. Alaska Geographic works to remove those barriers by providing gear, instruction, and fully funded expedition experiences for teens who might not otherwise have access.
Participants are nominated by mentors or community members who believe the experience could make a meaningful impact on the teen’s life.
Building the Next Generation of Public Land Stewards
Programs like Teen Expeditions do more than introduce young people to outdoor adventure. They help cultivate the next generation of leaders, scientists, and advocates for our public lands.
Through hands-on experiences, mentorship, and collaboration with public land agencies, teens gain exposure to conservation careers and develop a stronger sense of responsibility for protecting the landscapes they explore.
