The Shenandoah Youth Conservation Corps strives to increase opportunities for underserved youth to connect with Shenandoah National Park and the outdoors to develop their leadership skills and become future stewards of our public lands. Working with the Great Appalachian Valley Conservation Corps, Shenandoah National Park Association brings 16 youth, ages 15-18, to Shenandoah National Park for a total of 8 weeks to work on projects that include trail maintenance, campground rehabilitation, Natural Resource research projects, removal of invasive plant species, and archeological digs.
A consistent challenge of the Corps is providing experiences in the backcountry for the youth. Many participants do not have the financial means to purchase the appropriate gear for such adventures. Wild Tribute's 4 the Parks donations helped Shenandoah National Park Association purchase tents, sleeping bags, backpacks and backcountry stoves to facilitate this year's backpacking experience.
